First meeting

So you have invested a lot of time in the relationship. After weeks of searching for the right person, and spending hours at the computer chatting with them or talking to them over the phone, it is now time for the most awaited, yet most nerve wrecking step, the first meeting. As the old saying goes, first impression is the last impression, it is very essential for this meeting to go smoothly and as planned. Here are some tips for those who are meeting their partners for the first time after finding each other on an online dating site.
1- Always meet in a public place humming with activity. This reassures the person that you are not shy of crowd and confident. If you are a woman, then this is helpful for your safety too. Always make sure you have informed your family or close friend about the details of the meeting like place, time etc. Typically a restaurant or a coffee house is the best for such meetings.
2- Always go meet the person in your own car instead of making them pick you up. Not only does this reinforce your independence, it gives you an option of leaving as per your wish whenever you feel uncomfortable.
3- Never meet at your house or at your parents’ house. It is not a good option from the safety point of view as you don’t know the person yet.
4- Keep the first meeting a short one. Don’t end up spending a lot of time together at the very first date. You should take your time to analyze the person and think about every step before taking it.
Although no one can teach you the exact ways of reacting to a situation, keep your head on your shoulders and you shall do just fine. Be confident!
